  • Ordinary model providers can read messages and earlier messages included in a request.
  • Models marked “zero provider visibility” hide messages from the model provider. DuckDuckGo still processes readable prompts for anonymous analysis.
  • History stays on your device by default. Optional sync stores an encrypted copy that the service cannot decrypt.
  • DuckDuckGo prohibits model training on chats. OpenAI and Anthropic can keep requests in memory for up to one hour.
  • Uploaded files and images are sent to an external safety-check service, even when using a protected model.
  • Submitting feedback shares the conversation with DuckDuckGo for review.

Privacy context

Encrypted history is available through Sync & Backup. Anthropic can retain chats for legal or abuse checks. Files flagged as child sexual abuse material are kept and reported to authorities.
